wakejoy ("the App") helps users protect sleep by locking selected distracting apps during a chosen wind-down window and supporting a gentle wake-up flow. This policy describes how wakejoy handles data under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR/DSGVO).

Data We Collect

wakejoy does not create user accounts and does not use ad tracking. We do not collect personal profile data through the app.

Analytics

wakejoy uses PostHog (PostHog Inc., USA) for anonymous product analytics. Events captured include app opens, onboarding step progression, and purchase lifecycle events (purchase_completed, purchase_failed, purchases_restored). No personally identifiable information is sent; events are associated with an anonymous device-scoped identifier generated by the PostHog SDK. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in product improvement). PostHog privacy notice: posthog.com/privacy.

Purchases and Data Processing

Subscriptions and one-time purchases are processed by Apple via the App Store. Payment information is handled by Apple and is not available to us.

To manage entitlements, we use RevenueCat (RevenueCat, Inc., USA) as a processor. RevenueCat receives an anonymous app user identifier and purchase status metadata. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (performance of contract). RevenueCat policy: revenuecat.com/privacy.

Screen Time and App Shielding

wakejoy uses Apple's FamilyControls, ManagedSettings, and DeviceActivity frameworks to apply user-selected app shields during the user's chosen wind-down window. The list of shielded apps, the shield schedule, and authorization status stay on the device — wakejoy does not transmit this data to any server, ours or third-party. You control authorization at iOS Settings → Screen Time, and can revoke it at any time.

On-Device Storage

wakejoy stores lightweight settings on-device in iOS UserDefaults using the app group group.wakejoy.shared. Stored fields: lock time, wake time, selected alarm sound, list of selected shielded apps, and onboarding progress. This data does not leave your device.

System Permissions

wakejoy may request iOS permissions required for app functionality, such as notifications (to deliver the alarm) and Screen Time controls (to apply the shield). Permission choices are controlled by you in iOS settings.

Third-Party Services

When content is delivered through network infrastructure, standard technical metadata (such as IP address in transit) can be processed by infrastructure providers to deliver the requested service. We do not use this for profiling.

Your Rights

Under GDPR, you may request access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, and portability where applicable. You may also lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.

Children's Privacy

wakejoy is not directed at children under 16 and does not knowingly collect personal data from children.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy. The latest version will always be published on this page with an updated effective date.
